Alchemical Drum Circle Opening Ceremony is 10-10:30pm. Trance drumming, chanting, and dancing continues till the wee hours, with a closing ceremony whenever the time feels right, often at dawn.
Since the beginning of human society, we have gathered together to drum, dance, make music and magic around the fire. Indeed, at Beltania we have been drumming and dancing all night in each of the ten years we have been gathering. But 2018 is different; this year we embrace a new paradigm, the Alchemical Drum Circle. In our Alchemical circle, we gather for conscious communication, experimentation, and transformation. Alchemy is the magical process of creation and transformation of base metal into gold; here, we are the base metal and we are the gold. We don’t quite know what will happen… it is a mystery to unfold. Each person is invited to co-create, to share, and to express themselves fully through rhythm (fire), voice (air), movement (water), and service (earth).
The area inside the prayer flags is for those actively moving. Closer to the center altar moves faster, with slower movement on the outer edge.
Beyond the prayer flags is still sacred space, where participants may stand in silence or while chanting, remaining fully engaged in holding space for those drumming and dancing. It is encouraged to be of service to the dancers by holding out cups of water or fruit, or add supporting spiritual energy.
Those who wish to rest and relax or to quietly engage in conversation are invited to move upstairs to the balconies or the upstairs meeting room, where in advance we encourage all guests to set up a private “nest” space with a blanket, chair, or mat so that you can re-energize without having to leave the building. You can also depart at any time to go to your lodging and return at any time throughout the night. We anticipate this spiritually focused trance drum circle will go all night long, and be deeply transforming and connecting for all.
All ages encouraged to attend. Parents, please supervise your children and ensure they are respecting the various physical boundaries for different activities.
In addition to setting up your private “nest” area sometime prior to the drum circle, we invite you to bring your drums and other instruments. Leave the cover on or turn it over/sideways to indicate that it is not available for anyone else to use, or leave the cover off and keep upright to indicate it’s available to share.
